Michelin Star Chef Vikas Khanna Says 'My Sense Of Hunger Didn't Come From India', Explains The Story Behind It
India’s star chef Vikas Khanna, totally deserve a big salute for his humanitarian work during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The chef so far has distributed 14 million meals in 135 cities across India,  in his recent interview with BBC as stated in Swarajyamag, his sense of hunger didn’t come from India but from New York. The chef during his conversation with BBC also revealed this came after he faced difficult times during his stay in NYC post the 9/11 terror attack due to his colour.

He said, “I understand, but my sense of hunger didn't come from India so much, because I was born and raised in Amritsar and we have a huge community kitchen where everyone gets fed...” In one of his recent tweets as well he had mentioned about 2000 New York rescue mission which pumped him with tons of energy to rise above and be positive. His tweet read, “17 Millionth Meal is dedicated to #NYRescueMission In 2000, due to circumstances I landed up in @NYCRescue, a homeless shelter in NY. It took me a lot of positivity & energy to rise. This place is sacred to me.  I truly thank those who try to bury us and those who nurture us.”

Also recalling about these difficult times he mentioned about Mrs Pushpa Sabharwal who was one of his employers who helped him a lot. He said, “While many treated me like crap, she was most generous. I saved every $$ she gave me for summer school at NYU. She used to tell me that one day I would cook for Presidents. We both laughed. Who knew that Ma Saraswati was talking to me through her. Her voice has so many blessings.”

In the current times he is one of the chefs who has cooked for former President of US Barack Obama and has appeared on Gordon Ramsay’s show as well. He also met Queen Elizabeth II at the Buckingham palace where he showcased his book Utsav, A Culinary Epic of Indian Festivals to her.
